Ruby City and MonteVideo present a special community screening of ASCO: Without Permission, at Slab Cinema Arthouse at Blue Star. The new documentary by filmmaker Travis Gutiérrez Senger chronicles the groundbreaking Chicano art collective ASCO, whose conceptual and performative works in 1970s East Los Angeles boldly challenged exclusion from mainstream art institutions.
Following the screening, join us for a conversation with artist Kathy Vargas and scholar Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark, facilitated by Ruby City Director Elyse A. Gonzales, as they reflect on ASCO’s legacy, Chicanx art histories, and the continued impact of experimental art practices in Texas and beyond.
Attendance is free but space is limited, registration is required. Reserve your spot today.
Slab Cinema Arthouse at Blue Star is located at 134 Blue Star, San Antonio, TX 78210. Parking is available for free at the Blue Star Arts Complex.
